MG University is Mt. Gilead's approach to continuing Biblical education.
We believe lifelong disciples are lifelong learners and we provide many classes, workshops, electives, and seminars to help people learn God's word. There are nine core courses in the MG University curriculum. These classes are designed for everyone and feature paths to dive deeper along the way. Every year we will offer the nine core courses and electives based on the needs of the church.
Core Courses A Jesus-Centered Life
C1-a: Men Exploring Discipleship
This course is facilitated by a man for male participants. The content will examine what it means to be a disciple and to disciple others while setting expectations and goals for transforming and living out a life of discipleship.
C1-b: Women Exploring Discipleship
This course is facilitated by a female for female participants. The content will examine what it means to be a disciple and to disciple others while setting expectations and goals for transforming and living out a life of discipleship.
C2: Christian Beliefs/Doctrine
This course covers the basics of what we believe and expands on what is covered in Starting Point. Who is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit; and what are they doing for us; How can we respond and live with a Christian worldview? We will also discover our potential for serving the Lord effectively.
C3: Experiencing Jesus
This course will spend a week overviewing each of these faith-based, Jesus-centered activities (i.e., prayer, meditation-quiet time, bible study, worship, application, and evangelism) that help build our relationship with the Lord.
C4: Serving Others
We will explore “SHAPE/GPS” through (1) Spiritual gifts, (2) Heart/Passions, (3) Abilities, (4) Personality, and (5) Experiences. We will also address the “needs and opportunities” in our local community (e.g., poverty, homelessness, hunger, unemployment, education, prison, addiction, loneliness, and single-parenting, among others); and, we will identify ministry/serving opportunities (e.g., guest services, worship team, children and student ministries, celebrate recovery, prison ministry, bundle-up, and funeral dinners, among others).C5: Old Testament Survey
Consisting of 39 books in four sections (i.e., Law, History, Poetry and Prophecy), the Old Testament is a necessary tool for us to understand the unfolding of God’s plan leading to Christ and the church. This class (1) Introduces the Old Testament, (2) Provides a basic timeline of events, and (3) Presents tools to help our comprehension.
C6: New Testament Survey
Consisting of 27 books in four sections (i.e., Gospels, History, Letters and Revelation), the New Testament highlights Jesus’ ministry, the beginning of the church, and how we can grow as His disciples. In this introductory class, we will navigate the New Testament with a basic understanding of its central message.
C7: Prayer and Bible Study
A Meaningful Approach – There is significant value in prayer; and this course will provide information and tools to improve our prayer life to function more effectively, efficiently, and scripturally while also providing information and tools that will allow us to read and study the bible more effectively.
C8: Stewardship – A Lifelong Directive
This course will explore the true meaning of stewardship and how we may apply it as a lifelong directive. This experience may radically transform our Christian lives and set us on a course that is more fulfilling and useful to our Lord and Savior.
C9: Christian Evidence/Apologetics
This course will examine evidence that proves the authenticity of Scripture and of Jesus as the Christ. We will ask some tough questions and look at proof from creation, archaeology, and history while also demonstrating reliability and validity in Scripture. At the conclusion of the class, we will be more prepared to give a defense for our faith to skeptics and answer their questions.
